Join Me in the Fight for Freedom!

Saturday, March 20th, 2010

Here’s a note from Don:

Congress is on the verge of passing a $2.5 trillion health care reform bill that will take health care decisions out of the hands of Hoosiers and place them in the hands of bureaucrats in Washington.  The choices that should be left to you, your family and your doctor will be governed by government “experts” intent on doing what is good for government, not what is good for you. As I have traveled the state I have repeatedly said that there are two directions our country could take right now; we could continue to slide towards European-style socialism or we could return to Ronald Reagan’s vision of a shining city on a hill.

Some are wringing their hands in dismay as this Administration and this Congress try to ram their proposals through the process without much consideration for the Constitution.  In my opinion, the backroom deals, the attempts to skirt a recorded vote in the House, and the vote-buying kickbacks and gimmicks all indicate that this so-called reform is just another power grab.

Indiana’s next senator must be someone who is strong enough to stand up to Washington.  It needs to be someone with experience in business and finance and with a moral compass oriented on freedom, personal responsibility, limited government and family values.  As a father, community leader, and experienced financial advisor and analyst, I am ready to go to Washington and get to work on your behalf.

Freedom is on the line with this next election and I believe that freedom can, and will, win!  In order for our campaign to win in November, I am going to need your help right now!  Join me in the fight for freedom by contributing $10, $25, $50, $100 or $500 to our campaign.  Your contribution will move us forward and give us the needed resources to stand up to the agenda of Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, and carry our message throughout Indiana.  The momentum is building and your help will keep it moving forward!

What Others Are Saying About Don

Monday, March 8th, 2010

On Saturday Don headed to Warsaw for a debate with the other four candidates.  This time the debate was hosted by a local tea-party group, and numerous press outlets covered the event, including a few radio stations that carried the debate live.  Don did a tremendous job of delivering a positive message focusing on what needs to be done to restore responsibility in Washington and preserve the American dream.

Here are some excerpts of what just a few media outlets are saying:

South Bend Tribune:

Bates said he would bring a practical business approach to Washington and spoke out against what he called out-of-touch career politicians.

“If we continue to send the same kind of politicians to Washington year after year, we can certainly expect the same results,” Bates said. “We must stop our government that is raising our taxes, invading our small businesses and family farms, nationalizing our health care and robbing us of our American dream,” Bates said.

Warsaw Times-Union:

Bates Jr. said free market principals are the secret to success, and encouraged a larger pool of people to be under the same health insurance policy so insurance premiums decrease.

Ft. Wayne Journal-Gazette:

Bates, a businessman, opened the debate by telling the crowd the men on the stage represented more than 50 years of political experience.

“I must say to you, I’m not responsible for a day of it,” he said. “I’m not a career politician.”

Wabash Conservative Union Blog:

“…he was interrupted quite a few times with applause—even though they were told to refrain from clapping.”

Team Bates is excited about the momentum that is building, and with your help, we will carry the primary in victory and head into the fall ready to turn this Senate seat from Blue to Red!

Don Pulls Strong in Warsaw Straw Poll

Monday, March 8th, 2010

As FoxNews reported, Don came in second for Kosciusko county votes in the straw poll after Saturday’s debate.  Why was this a strong showing?  Because part of the county is in Marlin Stutzman’s district, and he and one other candidate had home-turf advantage, having been able to mobilize a base of support that they have been building for months in that county.  The majority of Don’s support in the poll came from people at the debate who had no previous affiliation to our campaign.  The most ground gained by any campaign in that unscientific poll on Saturday was by Team Bates!

Tea Party Leaders Endorse Don

Friday, March 5th, 2010

Lisa Deaton and Brian Jasper, two leaders of the “We the People Indiana” Tea Party organization in Columbus, have made Don their candidate of choice for United States Senate.  As informed and engaged Tea Party activists, Brian and Lisa are part of that broad movement of citizens who are fulfilling a key part of our founder’s vision for this country: a citizenry not afraid to hold government accountable for its actions.

Here is Lisa’s statement:

“There has never been a more important time to elect public servants who understand the intent and value of our Constitution and will work to restore this country to its original values.  Don Bates Jr. is that servant who will lead by example.  I see an opportunity for a real conservative voice to lead and inspire those that will remain in office, after the elections, back to true conservative principles.  It is time for the people to be in power. Don Bates Jr. will be a strong voice, that I believe, can be trusted to move us in the right direction.”

Here is Brian’s statement:

“I feel a kinship with Don Bates not just about the issue of a smaller, more fiscally responsible government but about the need for someone who will work to roll back the policies that are ruining our nation both financially and morally.  I believe Don Bates is a new type of politician who seeks to go to Washington to return the power of the government back to the people.”

Are you, like Lisa and Brian, endorsing Don for this race?  If so, leave a comment telling us why you are choosing to endorse Don Bates Jr. for Senate!
